Uzbekistan Trans-Oxus Tour, 15 Days

As far we as know on the plains of Central Asia there are many cities with hundreds of architectural monuments from different epochs. Among the most famous are Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Nukus,Termez and Kokand. These cities were centers of science and art. Great architects created palaces, mosques and mausoleums, world famous monuments of ancient architecture, to memorialize Alexander the Great, Chengiz Khan and Amir Temur(Temurlane). Many of these masterpieces did not survive, but by visiting those which have been preserved it is possible to glimpse the pages of the past. Your travel in Uzbekistan will be unforgettable. You will see minarets, grandiose madrassahs and mosques, palaces and mausoleums decorated with incredible ceramic tiles, noisy and colorful oriental bazaars, interesting legends, warm hospitality and the ancient traditions of local population.

 

Day 1: Arrival in Tashkent

Arrive in Tashkent. Transfer from the airport to the hotel.  In the afternoon sightseeing in the capital of Uzbekistan, 4th largest city in post soviet republics. Visit Old City part of Tashkent with Khast-Imam Complex where the world famous Qoran of Caliph Osma. In Khast-Imam visit Madrasah of Barak-Khan, Tilla Sheikh Mosque, Mausoleum of the Saint Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi and the Islamic Institute of Imam al-Bukhari. Explore Chorsu Bazaar. Then take a ride on Tashkent Metro to city center with Amir Timur SquareIndependence Square and  Arts Museum.

Day 2: Tashkent – Kokand  – Fergana

At 07:00 transfer to the train station. Take train departing to Kokand at 08:05. Arrive in Kokand at 12:00. Meet your guide and driver and start sightseeing tour in Ferghana Valley. Visit the Khudoyar-Khan Palace, Jami Mosque and Norbut-biy Madrasah.  Visit Akhmad Al-Fergani Park in Fergana and Regional museum of Fergana.

Day 3: Fergana – Margilan – Rishtan – Tashkent

In the morning, drive from Fergana to Margilan and visit Said Akhmad-Khoja Madrasah. Today, madrasah is home to a number of craftsmen producing handmade carpets and silk. Have a walk on traditional market and continue to Yodgorlik Silk factory to see the production process of silk with traditional Ikat patterns. If it is Thursday or Sunday, visit Kumtepa Bazaar, the largest market in Fergana Valley. Drive to Rishtan to the well-known ceramic masters  whose works are exhibited on world exhibitions. Enjoy a pottery workshop and have a look at ceramic collection in a small museum. After Rishtan drive to Tashkent.

Day 4: Tashkent – Nukus – Nukus

Morning flight to Nukus (1255 km, 2 h. 45 min.). Arrive in Nukus .Visit the Savitsky Karakalpakstan Art Museum. The museum hosts the world's second largest collection of Russian avant-garde art and exposition of Karakalpak applied arts items. After lunch drive to archaeological necropolis complex Mizdakhan.

Day 5 Nukus-Khiva  

In the morning depart to Khiva (200 km, 4-5 h.). On the way visit archaeological monuments of Ancient Khorezm  Toprak-Kala – Ayaz-Kala and Kyzil-Kala Arrive in Khiva, check in to the hotel.

Day 6: Khiva

Spend a day in UNESCO World Heritage site Itchan-Kala Fortress, living museum under the open sky. 
Take a walking sightseeing tour in Khiva: visit Kunya Ark CitadelTash-Khovli Palace, Mukhammad Aminkhan Madrasah, Mukhammad Rahimkhan Madrasah, Kalta Minor, Juma Mosque, Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, Minaret of Islam-Khoja. Free time in the afternoon.

Day 7: Khiva – Bukhara

In the morning depart Khiva and drive to Bukhara (480 km, 7-8 h.). The Great Silk Routes once pathed through Bukhara and Khiva ran through the Kyzyl Kum Desert.  Stop en-route to enjoy views of Amu Darya River and the desert. On the way visit Chor-Bakr Necropolis. Arrive in Bukhara late in the afternoon, check in to the hotel.

Day 8: Bukhara

Enjoy a walking sightseeing tour with a guide in Old City. Visit Lyabi-Khauz Ensemble, Magoki-Attori Mosque, Chor-Minor Madrasah, trade domes, Kalyan Minaret, Kalyan Mosque and Miri-Arab Madrasah, Ulugbek and Abdulazizkhan madrasahs, Ark Fortress, Bolo-Khauz Mosque, Ismail Samani and Chashma-Ayub mausoleums.

Day 9: Bukhara

Start the second day with a visit to Chor Minor madrasah, Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa – summer residence of Bukhara’s last emir, unique site combining Oriental and Russian architecture. Continue to Bakhouddin Naqshbandi Mausoleum . Enjoy free time in the afternoon.


Overnight in Bukhara

 Day 10: Bukhara – Nurata – Yurt Camp

In the morning depart Bukhara and drive to yurt camp located in Kyzyl Kum desert (230 km, 4 h.*). On the way stop in Gijduvan pottery masters workshop and Nurata town to visit a local mosque with a holy spring water. In the afternoon continue driving to yurt camp in Kyzyl Kum desert. Stop on Nurata pass to see petroglyphs. Arrive in Yurt Camp, accommodation in yurt. In the afternoon visit  Aidarkul Lake and camel riding . In the evening dinner near the camp fire with Kazakh akin singing folk songs.

Day 11: Yurt camp - Samarkand

 In the morning depart to Samarkand (270 km, 5 h.). On the way visit Imam al Bukhari mausoleum(9thcc philosopher, hadith collector. On arrival visit Guri Amir (Temurlane’s tomb)

Day: 12 Samarkand

Start your day by visiting spectacular Registan Square, remains of Bibi Khanum Mosque, Siab Bazaar, Ulugbek Observatory, Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis.  After lunch continue sightseeing: visit Afrasiab Museum then drive to Konigil village to explore traditional way of making Samarkand paper from mulberry.

Day 13: Samarkand – Shakhrisabz – Termez

In the morning depart Samarkand and drive to Shakhrisabz (90 km, 2 h.). Have a short city tour in Shakhrisabz. Visit Mausoleum of Jakhongir in Dor-us Siodat Memorial Complex, remains of Ak-Saray Palace, Dor-ut Tilavat Ensemble with Kok-Gumbaz Mosque and burial vault of Tamerlane’s father. In the afternoon continue driving to Termez (290 km, 5 h.). Arrive in Termez, check in to the hotel.

Day 14: Termez – Tashkent

Start sightseeing in ancient centres of Silk Road and one of the oldest cities in Central Asia – Termez.  Visit Kyrk-Kyz Fortress, Kokildor-Ota Khanaka, and Sultan Saodat Ensemble – a summer residence of Samani rulers. Visit Archaeology Museum to explore exhibits discovered on the territory of Termez and its surroundings. In the evening transfer to the airport for flight to Tashkent. Upon arrival transfer to hotel.

Day 15: Tashkent – departure

Transfer to the airport. End of the tour.
