Mtskheta Tour

Spend your day with a fascinating 3-hour tour to the ancient capital of Georgia. You will see one of the most important religious places and understand the its role in the history of Georgia. Our expert guide will provide you all information.

The first stop visits the Jvari Monastery (6th С.), which rises on the rocky mountaintop and has for centuries watched over ancient Mtskheta. Jvari translates to the "Monastery of the Cross", similar to the Georgian monastery in Jerusalem with the same name.  The Jvary Monastery also features a magnificent view of the confluence of the two biggest rivers, Kura and Aragvi. The spectacular view of the surrounding scenery has inspired poets and writers over the centuries. You will fall in love with the peaceful atmosphere of this place. The importance of Jvari complex increased over time and has attracted thousands and thousands of pilgrims. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We will continue our tour visiting Mtskheta, a place in the heart of every Georgian. The city is made famous by Svetitskhoveli Monastery (11th С.). Here stand the biggest shrines of the Christian world, and include relics such as the remains of Andrew the Firstcalled, a piece of cross on which Jesus was crucified, and the Tunic of Christ. You will be surprised by the ancient frescoes inside the cathedral.
We will take a stroll along the medieval (renovated) streets. Here you can take the opportunity to do some shopping during your free time. With time here to spend at your leisure, you can revel in the relaxed atmosphere and marvel at the town’s stunning ancient architecture.
Relax on the journey back to Tbilisi.
