Golden Eagle Festival 2020, Western Mongolia

Don't miss this uniqe festival of Kazakh tribe who reside in the Altai mountains of Mongolia. Great opportunity to see how these nomad people manipulate one beast to hunt another.

DAY 1 Fly to Ulgii city in Western Mongolia

Fly from Ulaanbaatar to Ulgii. Welcomed by Erka and you will be transfered to your hotel. Have lunch at a restaurant. Visit local museum, bazaar and an overlook to view the town. Overnight at hotel. (L+D)

Day 2 Drive to eagle hunter family


Drive to a village called Altai (110km) to meet the true eagle hunter and his family. The village is surrounded with mountains with foxes and rabbits. The hunter lives in this village during the winter and in mountains during the summer. Overnight in wooden house or yurt. (B+L+D)

Day 3, 4, 5 Going eagle hunting


Mount on horses and go to nearby mountains to see how the Kazakh eagle hunters hunt with their golden eagles. Hunting real animals will require days sometimes. Along with the hunter witness this amazing activity. On the day 3, late afternoon drive back to Ulgii. Overnight at hotel. (B+L+D)

Day 6, 7 Attend the festival

15 min drive to a hill called Sayat Tobe where the festival takes place and it is just outside of the Ulgii. The festival starts with a parade of eagle hunters, and then goes on with the main events of the festival in which eagle hunters display their eagles’ skills starting with calling their eagle from a distance. The festival is accompanied by several traditional Kazakh traditional games such as At zharys (horse race), Kokpar (tug of war over a goat carcass while on horseback) and Tyin Teru ( pick up a coin on the ground while on horseback).You will spend the whole day at Sayat Tobe giving break for lunch. Overnight at hotel. (B+L+D)

 

Day 8 Fly back to UB

We will transfer you to the airport. Fly back to Ulaanbatar. ( B )

Important tip: Domestic air tickets MUST be booked as soon as airline companies announce their summer flight schedule in late March. Because, hundreds of travelers fly to Ulgii for the festival and it is very likely that you will not be able to find domestic tickets. Moreover, domestic tickets and hotels get more expensive than usual at the time of the festival.

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
