Altyn Emel is also rich in unique plants and animals: among 634 species of plants growing in the park, 41 are rare and 27 are endemic, i.e. grow only in this region. An enormous-sized elm tree grows there, which is more than 700 years old. Eight people need to join their hands in order to fully embrace the tree. It is so old, that it probably witnessed Genghis Khan’s warriors, drinking water from a nearby water spring. There is also a tree with extremely hard bark, which was used by people to cut arrows in ancient times. This tree is called ‘stone tree’.56 species of animals and 40 species of birds that live in the Park are listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. These are snow leopard (Panthera uncial), wild Pallas’s cat, also known as Manul (Felis manul), Middle Asian river otter (Lutra lutra),

DAY 6

Kolsai lake 1th and Kolsay Lakt 2nd

The two lower lakes are surrounded by fir trees, alpine meadows, and mountain pastures. The upper lake is situated among rocks. The shortest and least difficult path to Lake Issyk-Kul runs through the Kolsay lakes. The Kolsay Lakes is the goal of many visitors.
The system of lakes is situated approximately 300 km to the east of Almaty on the Kungei Alatau ridge. The road leads from Almaty to Chilik, then to Kegen and proceeds to Saty, a small village (it is possible to reach Saty by bus from Almaly).
The route begins from the lower Kolsay Lake (1,100 m), then the path to the middle Kolsay Lake (2,250 m), up to the upper Kolsay Lake (2,700 m) and further, through the Sarybulak Crossing (3,275 m) to the Sarybulak village valley. The landscape is, mainly, of forests, lake valleys, and grassy slopes.

DAY 7

Kaindy Lake/ back to Almaty via Charyn Canyon

7:30 – 8:30 Breakfast in the guest house
09:30 11:30 -  Arrival at the parking site and walk to the Kaindy Lake ( min one way by normal road)
The lake is famous for the number of dead and bleached spruce trees that stick out of the water – remnants of the trees that were flooded when the lake was formed. The trees, together with the improbable turquoise water of the lake, make an incredibly scenic sight. Underwater, the imagery is even more stunning, as the trees have not decomposed and created the surreal vision of an underwater forest.
Surprisingly, the lake sees few visitors, partly because Kaindy Lake is overshadowed by the more famous Bolshoe Almatinskoe Lake and the Kolsay Lakes, all of which are close by, but far easier to reach from Almaty. Thus, despite its proximity to a city with a population of more than one million, the lake retains a peaceful atmosphere.
12:30 - Return to the guest house / check out
01:00 - Lunch in the guest house/departure to Almaty
01:40 – 02:00  -Stop on the “Black Canyon” this is a deep black canyon where flows one of the beautiful river “Sharyn” - sometimes there you can see mountain goats who live in this area.
02:40 - Arrival on the territory of the national park “Charyn”
The Charyn Canyon is located in the Charyn National Park about 215km east of Almaty and approximately a 3-hour drive via the A 351 and A 352.  The Canyon has been described as the Grand Canyon’s little brother.  This is not to detract from the sheer splendor of the canyon itself.  The vista of dramatic erosion made by the river Charyn below and the elements has created a dramatic and impressive landscape.
The Canyon itself is approximately 150 km long, and, in places up to 300 meters deep.
One area of particular interest is an area of 2km called the Valley of Castles, due to the pillars and rock formations forming imposing, almost man-made structures.
The story of the Canyon is that it was formed about 3 million years ago as the land around the canyon started to rise.  A very large lake existed in the area around the top of the canyon and it started to empty.  Over the next million years the canyon was formed by the Charyn river.  Approximately 2 million years ago a large earthquake disturbed the flow of the river by blocking it with a land-slip.  The visitor part of the canyon then has suffered from the elements forming the rock sculptures.  The Charyn River still flows at the bottom of the canyon forming the next great canyon.  Because the area used to be a large inland sea, the deposits revealed on the sides of the canyon are relatively soft and are a geologists dream, revealing hundreds of millions of years of the earth’s history at this location.
03:00 – 05:00we will walk along the canyon until Sharyn river where we will have lunch in the Eco Park of the national park (this is a beautiful gazebo by the river)
05:00 - Departure to Almaty
07:00 - Arrival in Almaty / accommodation in the hotel**** where you lived on the first day
