Savalan Valley - Wine Tasting
Route: Baku - Shamakhi - Ismailly - Gabala - Baku (220 km)
There are nine climatic zones in Azerbaijan, and six in the Savalan valley. At an altitude of 400 m above sea level, there is an ideal balance between the amount of precipitation, sunny days and average annual temperature. The place is blessed, almost identical to southern Italy. Under the leadership of an enologist-agronomist of international class, Ermano Murari, in 2006, the first vines of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay were planted on 45 hectares, and in 2010, the first wines were made. Today, the company has 360 hectares of fruit bearing and 40 hectares of growing vineyards; more than 20 varieties are cultivated: Viognier, Syrah, Alicante Boucher, Aleatiko, Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat and others.
Savalan Valley is an extinct volcano. The vineyards are located on a peculiar peninsula, which is protected from dry winds by the mountains of the Caucasus and is surrounded on two sides by mountain rivers.
