All-Inclusive Golden Eagle Festival & Trip to Tavan Bogd

Day 01 Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and Visit Zaisan Monument: (October 01)

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, greeted by one of our English speaking guides at the UB airport. Drive to hotel. After lunch, we will visit Zaisan hill where a built in remembrance of Mongolia’s declaration of independence after a battle with Japan on the Mongolian eastern border and the defeat of Nazi Germany. In the evening we will return to the hotel after dinner.

Day 02 Arrive in Bayan Ulgii and Depart for National Park's Ranger Station : (October 02)

Fly from UB to Ulgii. Arrive in Ulgii, welcomed by one of the english speaking guides in Ulgii. Eat breakfast at the ger camp and then, Drive out to Tavan Bogd National Park’s ranger station. At the rangers station we will have a barbecue and sleep overnight in tents.

Day 03 Drive to Base Camp, Visit Potanin Glacier and Climb Malchin Peak: (October 03)

Drive to base camp of Tavan Bogd Mountain and see the Potanin glacier and observe the 5 peaks “5 Saints mountain” known in Mongolian as “Tavan Bogd” and then begin the climb to the top of Malchin peak a 4,050 m. mountain. After the climb, we will return back to the Ranger station for the night.

Day 04 Visit Eagle Hunter's Family: (October 04)

Drive to an Eagle hunter’s family see the golden eagles, watch them feed, and accompany the Eagle hunter and his eagle for a horse ride in the mountains and then, drive back to Ulgii. The night will be spent in our ger camp that is along the Khovd river.


Day 05 Attend Golden Eagle Festival, Day 1: (October 05)

This is the first day of the Golden Eagle Festival with the opening ceremony happening in the afternoon. The competitions today are based on the hunter and their eagle’s dress and traditional hunting equipment, the eagles speed, responsiveness, and training. After the festival taken to Ulgii for dinner a party and spend the night at the ger camp.

Day 06 Attend Golden Eagle Festival, Day 2: (October 06)

Attend day 2 of Golden Eagle Festival. This is the most exciting day of the festival with traditional Kazakh games being played such as horse races, camel races, and the final events that test the ultimate relationship between man and eagle. Later that evening you will have the opportunity to attend a Kazakh Traditional Wedding Ceremony before returning to the ger camo for our farewell party and celebration.

Day 07 Depart Bayan Ulgii/Explore Ulaanbaatar: (October 07)

Fly back from Ulgii to the capital city Ulaanbaatar. Picked up by a member of our team from the airport where you can spend the rest of the night in UB and enjoy a nice dinner at Oriental Express in UB.

Day 08 Depart Chinggis Khaan International Airport: (October 08)

Your guide in UB will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Chinggis Khaan International airport where you will depart for home.

What to bring: Passports – When traveling abroad it is always a good idea to keep passport copies with you. If you are booking a trip to the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park we will need a copy to purchase your permits to get into the national park. Sleeping bag – Although, yurts can be very warm, their temperatures drop a little during the night and it is best to have an all-season sleeping bag that is rated at -5ºCelcius/ 15º F or below even in the summertime. Waterproof hiking boots – Hiking, trekking, climbing, and walking through the terrain in Mongolia can be tough for anyone so you have to take care of your feet. Waterproof clothing – A weatherproof jacket is a necessity with the unpredictable weather here in Western Mongolia. The Kazakh’s and Mongolian’s have a saying that there are 4 typically seasons in one day. Towel, soap, and basic personal toiletries – A towel, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, and wet wipes for the rest of the trek is also recommended. All of which can be purchased in Ulgii. Water bottle – Your safety is our number 1 concern. Please bring a water bottle. Along the trail there are lots of rivers and streams from the glaciers and mountains that can be used to refill your bottle and boiled later to drink. Warm clothes – Fleece, long pants, woolen hat, gloves, Walking clothes – bring thin clothes that can be layered and be easily removed or added during the trip. Personal medication and basic first aid kit – Benadryl, Nyquil, rehydration salts, water purifying tablets, and other medications that cannot be purchased in Ulgii. Snacks – Foods that are high in calories such as: energy bars, . Snacks are provided during the trek but you may like to bring one or two extras just in case. Solar powered light – Money belt- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat- Bug spray/Insect repellent- Ziplock bags- Helmet- If you would feel safer on horseback or camel, you are encouraged to bring a helmet. Camera- These are once in a lifetime trips and taking photos is a must!
