The lake is located Zailiyskiy Alatau mountains at 2500m. above sea level and was formed by the ancient glacier activity. In the 1960es a number of hydropower plants and water intake facilities had been constructed near the lake to ensure water supply to the city of Almaty. The local name of the lake is Zhasylkol which means “blue lake”. The lake is rather small in size- 500m by 1000m. depending on the season and water level. The Big Almaty lake is surrounded by mountains and glaciers all around. It is very popular rest place for Almaty dwellers.
We drive up to the lake on asphalt road. We will leave the vehicle on the scenic viewpoint and walk. You can descend down to the water shore on steep slope paths, walk along the lake shore, take pictures of yourself with the blue water screen and rock cliffs in the background.
You will also be able to see many peaks of Big Almaty gorge and the guide will explain the names and its summiting history.
The program includes: drive in the Big Almaty gorge, visit of Ile-Alatau National Park, lunch in the open air, walk to the lake, taking pictures.

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.
Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
