New trekking route in Pamir by Mr Jean-Claude Latombe

Jean-Claude Latombe about itinerary

During this trip I visited valleys of the southern part of the province of Gorno-Badakhshan (often referred to as GBAO) in Tajikistan: Rivak and Badomdara/Restovdara valleys (on foot) and Shakhdara and Panj valleys (by car). I had planned two rather hard treks in this southern part of the Pamir mountains, but I eventually cut both of them short (see links below). Like in my 2009 and 2010 trips I found the Pamir mountains more physically demanding and unforgiving than expected. Perhaps, I am also getting too old for them. Nevertheless, despite some disappointments, this was a superb trip, with a bigger-than-planned cultural component in the Shakhdara and Panj valleys (old fortresses and shrines with pre-Islamic flavor).

Our team has opened this extraordinary route with the help of Mr. Jean-Claude. In this route we start from the village of Rivak. The tour can last from 5 days to 10 days depending on your physical fitness. Since this route is one of the difficult for those who are not afraid of heights and extreme. Therefore, we focus on the desire of our guests. Overnight will always be in tents and you will be accompanied by experienced porters and mountain guide who will carry your products and other things tourists. Ahead you should pass 3 passes of level A and B. Where we can admire the peaks of Engels (6510 m) and Marx (6726 m). you will also see a very beautiful lake Rivak where you can arrange a halt. Throughout the route you are guaranteed the most unusual panoramas where you can take photos with the extraordinary beauty of the Pamirs. During the trekking you will be completely separated from the civilized world.
