Kharkhorin, Terkhi White Lake 8 days

Destination:  Central Mongolia and Gobi Desert

Duration: 7 nights and 8 days

Food: The lunch you will have usually at the local restaurants on the way, the breakfast and the dinner will be cooked by your tour guide. 1.5L mineral water per person a day. Vegan food will be available on request.

Highlights: Discover Great White Lake, Orkhon valley, enjoy its beautiful surrounding, blue sky, learning about Buddhism, and you will be able to experience typical nomadic lifestyle.

Activities: horse and camel riding, hiking, climbing, visiting monasteries and museums, experience nomad-herder’s daily lifestyle, going on boat.

Itinerary:

Day 1

We’ll drive to Elsen Tasarkhai sand dune and have camel riding at the sand dune. The local guide will help and teach us how to ride. Two humped camels are very comfortable and gentle to ride. We'll drive to Khogno Khan Uul National Park. It's a unique place with many different forms of landscape. Near the splendid mountain, Khogno Khan, we'll visit nomad family and get introduced their life style and taste dairy products. After little rest, we'll go hiking to the mountain to see Ovgon temple. Overnight in the nomad family's ger.

Day 2

We will drive to Kharkhorin the ancient capital ruin of Great Mongolian Empire. Visit Erdene Zuu (Hundred treasures) the biggest monastery, the main treasure of Mongolian Buddhism and local museum where we can explore incredible historical sites of ancient Empires of Stone and Bronze Ages. Kharkhorin was established in the valley of Orkhon river in 1220 and it was one of the stops along the legendary Silk Road for 140 years.  Overnight in ger guesthouse.

Day 3

Today we will drive to Tovkhon monastery, established by Undur Gegeen Zanabazar in 1654 dedicated to religious studies and artworks. It is located on top of larch forested rocky mountain at an altitude of over 2000 meters in the territory of Bat-Ulzii soum of Uvurkhangai province. We’ll walk up to mountain on tiny path to discover the temple as vehicles can’t go until the top.

After visiting the monastery, we will drive to Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall located in Orkhon river valley.  This is an exciting place for hiking through the gorge and taking photos. It is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Central Mongolia. We’ll go on a yak cart. Overnight in nomad family’s ger.

Day 4

We will drive to the Tsenkher hot spring. We will enjoy and relax taking a hot bath in evening. Overnight in tourist camp.

Day 5

We will drive to the Great White (Terkhiin Tsagaan) Lake and Khorgo Volcano. Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park is protected since 1997 fully to safeguard the spectacular mountain scenery and endangered species of fauna and flora. The area has extinct volcanoes, many beautiful lakes, a great number of animals and birds and it is definitely one of the best natural tourist attractions. Khorgo is unique natural complex (2240 m), National Park surrounded by the Khangai mountains, which reach as 3000 m above the sea level. The Khorgo crater is situated at an altitude of 2.210 m with a diameter of 20 and depth of 70 to 80 m. Overnight in nomad family’s ger.

Day 6

We will walk around and enjoy the area, go on horseback riding from the lake to the volcano. We will have good opportunity to take lots of nice photos. We will stay in the nomad family’s ger.

Day 7

On the way we will take a break at the huge “Taihkar” rock.

We will drive further to Ugii Nuur lake. Ugii lake is freshwater lake, rich of many species of fish and birds, attracting domestic and international tourist for fishing, bird watching and swimming activities. We’ll go on a boat in the lake to enjoy the view of the lake surrounded by grassy steppe. Overnight in tourist camp.

Day 8

Drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
