Mongolian Altai – a trip to the ancient mystical world in the heart of Asia. Travelling to Mongolia is the dream of any person who is interested in Central Asia and nomadic cultures. The world of the Mongolian Altai is diverse: huge hollows, large lake basins,  sandy massifs and, of course, mountain peaks.  The wild and inaccessible Mongolian Altai is replete with traces of ancient nomadic cultures of Central Asia: rock paintings or petroglyphs, stone men, and burial mounds of dead leaders. Traveling to Mongolia is not just a holiday, but a deep exploration of the pristine culture of nomads. You can see with your own eyes the customs and traditions of the modern local nomads. Especially familiarity with the most unique art of the Kazakh people Hunting with Golden Eagles. Tour program

Day 1. Arrive at UB airport and meet our guide. Transfer to hotel. After a short rest, an excursion to the largest temple: Gandan, the Museum of Natural History, with a unique collection of dinosaur remains, as well as to the Museum of  National History. In the evening, watching the Mongolian national folk concert, throat singing. End the day with a local Dinner.

Day 2. Early in the morning transfer to the airport. Arrive at Olgii airport, where our team will meet you. After breakfast we set off. Our first stop will be nearly 180 km awar: Dayan lake.

Dayan lake is a mountain reservoir of 67, lengh 17 and width 9 km. 2232 m above sea level. Fresh water. The depths are small – up to 4 m. The lake has a moraine origin. The water freezes in early November, when severe frosts are set ( minus 18 – 21°C ). The thickness of the ice at the end of March reaches 70 – 80 cm. The word “dayan" means “great “. The term Naymans and Mongols used as a throne name. In 1204, a major battle took place between Chinggis Khan and his main opponents, the Naymans, whose leader was Dayan (Tayan) Khan.

Day 3. Today we set off towards the big lakes of the National Park - Hoton and Hurgan lakes. On the way, we will meet burial mounds,  stone men and balbals – magnificent monuments of historical culture. Shar-Bulak memorial and Khulbai mausoleum. These places are summer camps of nomads. Here a lot of nomads spend the whole summer. There fore, today we visit one local family of  Kazakh nomad. He is an Eagle Hunter. While with him, you will learn how to train and hunt with golden eagles.  Today you have a chance to get acquainted with the traditions and customs of the Kazakh people and the daily life of a nomads. Try the national tea with milk and natural dairy products.

Day 4. Today, before lunch, we will have a walking tour about 5 km to the Baga Turgen valley and hike to see the beautiful waterfall. After lunch we go to the lake Hoton. If you want to walk barefoot on the sandy shore, then we can continue walking. Camping on the western shore of the lake near the river Zagastgol.

Day 5. Our hike continues along the western shore of the lake. Today we will move to the other side of the lake near a small mountain,  which is covered with petroglyphs. Great sandy beach, with a beautiful view of the Mongolian Altai.

Day 6. Today, after a long and eventful trip on the eve, we will have a quiet journey along the mountain Shivet Khairkhan. Explore ancient petroglyphs from multiple eras.

Shivet Khairkhan, a sacred mountain of the Tuvan people. We will have the chance to explore the area and climb to the peak. The mountain is famous for its rich wildlife, specifically the rare Siberian ibex.

Day 7. Today we'll load our equipment and food on camels and we will hike the 16 km to the Base Camp. 2900 m above sea level. Here, we'll set up camp at the Base Camp next to Potanin Glacier – the largest glacier in Mongolian Altai. (20 km long). We will camp here for two nights to enjoy the stunning spectacle which is Tavan Bogd.

Tavan Bogd means “The Holy Five”. They are the Mongolian highest peak Huiten (4373 m ), Naran, Burged, Nairamdal and Machin peaks.  All snowcapped.

Day 8. Today we'll climb Malchin Peak (non-technical) 4050 m above sea level and enjoy the beautiful views of majestic mountains Russia and China from a distance.

Day 9. Trek down to the Tsagaan gol valley, which is the summer camps of the Tuvan people. You can visit the Tuvan family and get acquainted with their daily life, traditions and try milk vodka, which is distilled from yaks milk.

We will have time, before the sunset, to hike up to the valley where there is a beautiful lake.

Day 10. After breakfast we will drive back to Olgii. Vizit to the local Museum and handcraft souvenir shops to make pleasant surprises for your loved ones. Here you can pick up something definitely Mongolian to remember about the journey. Today, you will spend the night in the ger camp, where only you will be left without other tourists. Here you are treated to the national dish “Beshbarmak", which every hospitable Kazakh people treat their most honored guests. After that you will enjoy a national Kazakh etno-follkore concert.

Day 11. After breakfast, transfer to Olgii airport and take a flight for Ulaanbaatar. Free day.

Domestic flight information.

Domestic flights have limit of 15 kgs maximum including luggage and hand luggage. Any extra luggage can be brought with you. However, the airlines will charge you approximately 2 USD for each extra kg. We are able to book your domestic flights for you upon request.


Our tours will include both Western and Mongolian dishes. We know how to serve vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free diets at no extra cost.

The climate:

Mongolia has a high elevation, with a cold and dry climate. It has a extreme continental climate with long, cold winters and short summers, during which most precipitation falls. However, in summer, it can even get cold at night. The local people have a saying that there a 4 typically seasons in one day.

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
