Mongolia Winter Tour 2018 - Thousand Camel Festival, Gobi

One of our most popular festivals in winter is  two-humped Thousand  Bactrian Camel Festival.  This festival has been organized every year since 1997 in the Gobi Desert.

Aim of this festival is to draw people’s attention to camels for  protecting and breeding camels continuously in the future and the best management of increasing living values of camel.

This festival takes place in March 6 and 7 for 2 days in Bulgan soum  in South-Gobi province.

The main events are:

  • Festival Opening Ceremony
  • Parade of camel riders
  • Camel Polo
  • Best looking couple on a beautiful couple camel back     and etc.,


Day 1.  - March 4, on your arrival at Chingis Khaan International airport in UB, you will be met our guide and driver and transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon you will be guided for city tour to visit Gandan Monastery, National History Museum and Cashmere Store.   Overnight stay in hotel \B, L, D\.

Day 2.1  - March 5, In the morning after breakfast, we will drive 491km from UB to  Gobi Dinosaur tourist ger camp in Algui Red Crack. The Algui Red Crack \Cliff\ is one of the richest dinosaur fossil sites in Gobi Desert.  After lunch, you will be guided to see the remains of fossil bones of dinosaurs.

Day 2.2 - Visit and stay with a local nomad family and ride two-humped camel, try hoormog \camel milk\, food and other diary products. Surely you will have enjoyable time there. Overnight stay at ger camp \D\.

Day 3. - March 6, After breakfast, will drive 130km to Bulgan soum to watch Thousand Camel Festival. This is the first day and you will be able to see opening ceremony, Parade with camels and competition of a good looking couple in traditional costume on a beautiful  couple camel back. After lunch, Ankle bone competition, Camel polo and then there will be several exhibitions of "Camel-My friend" drawing contest among local children, hand crafts and dairy products by local people.  Overnight stay in local ger \B, L, D\.

Day 4.- March 7, Second day of the Festival. Camel and young camel racing, Camel Relay  competition consisting of catching, taming, training and, finally, loading a camel with an actual ger, Awarding and closing festival ceremony later in the afternoon. Overnight stay in local ger \B, L, D\.

Day 5.1 - March 8, Drive to Eagle Valley, located in the foothills of the Altai Mountains. The valley’s remnant streams create ice formations which you may find in the mouth of the valley as late as July. The mountains surrounding the valley also provide habitat for Argali wild sheep (one of the last wild great horned sheep) and ibex, which may be spotted in the early morning as they walk along the mountain ridges. Visit the Gobi museum and trek through the valley. Overnight in a ger camp.

Day 5.2 - Dinosaur National Park in Dalanzadgad province that is the closest city to the Flaming Cliffs, where dinosaurs were first discovered in Mongolia. In the Dinosaur theme park, there are almost 20  types of  dinosaurs in moving and audio statues.  \B, L, D\.

Day 6.  –  March 9, Ginghis Khaan Equestrian Statue  met with the statue 40 meters high horse, the National Park and relax on vacation.Overnight in a ger camp.

Day 7. - March 10, Back to UB. Free and relaxing time. Overnight stay in hotel \B, L, D\.

Day 8. - March 11, Transfer to Chingis Khaan international airport.

Payment Method

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
