Experience Eagle Hunting Culture 8 day tour

The tour takes 8 days to cover one of the best travel destinations Western Mongolian in the shortest time with experiencing local culture along with natural beauties. As well as hunting with Eagles has been preserved from generation to generation by ethnic Kazakhs who live in Mongolia. The western part of Mongolia is the most beautiful. It is home to the world rare wild species, numerous ethnic groups and snow-capped majestic mountains. The Altai Mountains are the highest among Mongolian mountains and the richest in endangered wild animals such as ibexes, snow leopards, Altai snowcock and Argali wild sheep those are considered the biggest in body size in the world. This journey will lead you far into the mountainous landscape of Bayan-Ulgii where you will witness firsthand a unique tradition that has survived for centuries in this remote corner of Central Asia, all while experiencing wonderful Kazakh hospitality.

Full itinerary

Day1. Flight to Ulgii city

In the morning, you will be transferred to the city airport for morning flight to Ulgii city. Upon arrival at the local airport, our guide and driver will pick up. After having lunch in Ulgii, visit local museums, bazaar which is an open market operating as the biggest trade center for the locals. Then, we will hike up to a hill which is called Friendship Hill from where you can see the town from the top. After returning to the vehicle, head to tonight’s Ger guesthouse.

Day2. Eagle Hunter’s family

After breakfast, we will head to an Eagle Hunter’s place. Kazakh family’s Gers are slightly larger than Mongolian Gers and are decorated with brightly colored rugs. We will enjoy their hospitality and friendliness and learn more in deep about their culture. Their life is completely different from Mongolians. You will see their traditional technology to make a colorful rug. There is a great chance to learn the real way of how eagle hunter family lives and how they train their eagles, Kazakh families are quite large, consisting of three generations, grandparents, parents, and children. You would have a chance to hold the eagle on your arms and taken photos. Overnight with the family.

Day3. Altai Tavan Bogd mountain (Ranger station)

After breakfast, we will drive towards to Ranger station of Tavan Bogd mountain. Lunch served, on the way. Altai Mountain we will explore the petroglyphs which are more than 8000 years old and is a picturesque mountain with glaciers and permanent snow peaks and is located at the cross border of western Mongolia with Russia and China. The mountain is called Altai Tavan Bogd, because of five high peaks. Arrive at the Ranger station after 5-6 hours. Overnight with the Kazakh family.

Day4. Botanian Glacier (Base camp)

 After breakfast, stay in the family horse guide will prepare horses for us, and we will only ride horses while there. Only horse riding is possible in this way. We will load our luggage on horses. And then the ride begins! An exhilarating start to the adventure. We will stop picnic lunch and photos on the way. We can have ride horses totally 4-5 hours a day. Upon arrival base camp, set up our tents and start the camping. See Potanian glacier around the base camp. Overnight in tents.

Day5. Botanian Glacier (Base camp)

After breakfast, we will prepare climb to Malchin peak on this day which is 4000 meters high. The Malchin (shepherd) is the classical trekking peak of the Altai Tavan Bogd. From the base camp climb the Malchin, walking on the left side of the big Potanina glacier, and then ascending on tiresome but easy scree. The nice summit also is known as Malchin, namely, “Shepherdess”. From here follow all the ridge, always remaining between the scree slopes of the South-side and the glacier on the north side. You should not need crampons unless there is very hard snow in the somewhat steeper stretch to the fore summit 3985m. Be careful and conservative on the last stretch to the summit. Then climb down to the base camp and overnight in tents.

Day6. Back to Ranger station

After breakfast, our horse guide will prepare horses for us, and we will only ride horses while there. We will load our luggage on horses. And then the ride begins! We will stop picnic lunch and photos on the way. We can have ride horse totally 4-5 hours a day. Arrive in the ranger station and overnight with the Kazakh family.

Day7. Ulgii city

After breakfast, we will toward driving to Ulgii city for 200 km off -road. Lunch served, on the way. Upon arrive in Ulgii city, go to Halal Restaurant (Turkish restaurant) and have dinner. Overnight hotel.

Day8. Flight to Ulaanbaatar city

Pick up our driver from the airport and transfer to the hotel or guesthouse. In the evening we will attend an amazing performance (18:00 pm) of Mongolian traditional music and dance.

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
