Pamir Multi-Activity tour, Dushanbe to Bishkek

Pamir Highway journey is without doubts one of the best road trips, however, what makes it even better and interesting are detours and activities that are available along the road. This tour is full of those activities. Trekking to one of the remotest mountain lakes - Sarez, a sleeping dragon, horseback riding, and hiking and cultural exposure will make this tour an unforgettable one.

Day 1: Dushanbe - Kalai Khumb

We will start our journey from Dushanbe. Departing in the morning we will cross the Shurabad Pass (2200m) and visit Hulbuk ancient fortress 8th Century which has been recently restored. After Shurabad you will have your first glimpse of the mountains of Afghanistan and continue towards the Pamirs making our way to Kalai Khumb town driving through beautiful scenery and interesting villages en route. This area is a little more conservative, and we will see many men with beards, and women wearing traditional dresses. We will arrive in Kalai khumb (360km) in the early evening. Overnight in a guesthouse in Dashtak village near Kalai Khumb.

Day 2: Kalai Khumb - Barchidev

We leave Kalai- Khumb in the morning and drive into the spectacular Bartang Valley today. Exploring in our 4x4, this valley is ted with villages famous for their local hospitality. We will continue up the rough and wild Bartang Highway to the village of Barchidev, where we will stay at a local homestay for an overnight before we embark on a day trek to Sarez Lake.

Day 3: Barchidev - Sarez Geological camp

After spending the night in a homestay, we will begin the day hike (8-9 hours) to the lake today. The distance is roughly 18km to a Geological camp, we’ll cross a suspension bridge over the river and follow a valley to Usoi Dam where we will climb up to the top with views of Lake Sarez and Shadau Lake which are separated by the Dam. Then we will climb down to the edge of the lake and spend the night in Geological Camp.

Day 4: Sarez Geological camp - Barchidev

Today we will have some time around the lake in the morning before we make the journey back to Barchidev, yet again staying in the homestay, before we depart the next day to Ishkashim. We will have a tour of the Geological Camp and meet the men that work to monitor the lake’s stability, who will also show us how the seismic equipment they use works. Later we will climb back to the village.

Day 5: Barchidev - Khorog

Today we head out back to Rushan before re-joining Pamir Highway and drive to the administrative center of the Pamir region, Khorog, where we'll explore the sights including the Ethnographical Museum, the Botanical Gardens and if we will arrive before 11 am a possible visit of an Afghan bazaar. We will have lunch in Khorog and explore this tiny beautiful town.

Day 6: Korog - Yamg. 

In the morning visit the Khorog Botanical Garden and afterward continue to Wakhan valley down to Yamg village. En route visiting the following sites:

Shrine in Darshai

Fortress in Yamchun

Bibi Fatima Hotspring

Day 7: Yamg - Langar. 

Start the day with a visit of Yamg museum and continue driving along the valley to Langar village. Visiting Buddhist stupa and hiking to Silk fortress today, with stunning views of Wakhan valley.

Day 8: Langar - Bachor. 

Drive from Langar to Bachor village on the shore of Ghund river, passing over Khargush and Koitezak passes, We shall take a short bath at yet another hot spring at Jelondy.

Day 9-10: Bachor - Yashilkul lake - Alichur. Horse riding

From Bachor ride on horses to Yasilkul lake along the Ghund river. With an overnight stop in tents in langar pasture. Enjoy the ride with spectacular mountain scenery along the way. On reaching the Yashilkul lake drive to Alichur village for overnight.

Day 11: Alichur - Karakul

We set off in the morning towards Murgab stopping off at some lakes. Having lunch in Murgab then we continue to Karakul lake and village. On the way, we cross the Ak Baital Pass at 4655m and continue on to the stunning Karakul Lake, with a walk along the shores to our homestay.

Day 12: Karakul - Yurt camp near MT in Peak

Continuing on the Pamir Highway we will set off for the Kyrgyz border today. We will cross the border and change cars on Kyrgyz side after which we will go over Kizil art pass (4336m) and continue to Yurt camp near Sary Mogul village in Kyrgyzstan. Overnight in Yurts. 

 

Day 13: Yurt camp - Osh

In the morning we drive to Osh 4 hrs, on arrival, we will have the opportunity to explore some of its sights, including Solomon’s Throne – the rock that looms over the city and is an important Muslim pilgrimage site. This Silk Road town is so old it celebrated its 3000th birthday a number of years ago. It is a place steeped in history and claims to have the best bazaar in all Central Asia – something we will check out.

Day 14: Osh - Arslanbob

Morning transfer to Jalal Abad. Visit the mausoleums and Minaret Uzgen on road. After lunch, transfer to the village of Arslanbob. The road follows first the border with Uzbekistan and the Arslanbob mountains. The village Arslanbob has a typical architecture and the center of the largest walnut forest in the world. It is said that Alexander the Great came to have a rest there with his army and would have brought Macedonia to Arslanbob nuts. Possibility to walk to a sacred waterfall or discover kyrgyz cuisine. Overnight in guest house.Accommodation: Homestay

Day 15: Arslanbob - Suusamyr

Toda transfer to Suusamyr valley, where we stay overnight in a traditional yurt. There will be a chance to try local orse milk called Kumis here.

Day 16: Suusamyr - Bishkek

Early in the morning, we will depart to Bishkek, where our tour finishes.
