Cycling Tour in Kyrgyzstan

Alex at Indy Guide would like to introduce you to a fascinating region perched in the middle of Tien Shan. Kyrgyzstan, a country of nomads in the due heart of Central Asia, offers largely unexplored mountains with a splendid playground for all nature- and virgin-land-lovers. The Kyrgyz people who have preserved its tradition of hospitality live peacefully in a surprising variety of landscapes and have made this country the pearl of Central Asia with steppes, prairies, deserts, and also canyons, high alpine valleys, and lakes with turquoise waters. In summer, as well as in winter times.
 
Program
Day 1: Arrival in Bishkek + City Tour
∣       Welcome to Kyrgyzstan.  At the airport your guide and team of drivers will great you with a sing welcoming everyone to Kyrgyzstan.
∣       Since most flights land at 3:00 am everyone will be able to come to a cozy guesthouse in Bishkek and have a rest after a long flight.
∣       At 10:00 am your guide will great you at the guesthouse and then you will go over the tour and unpack your bikes from the boxes.
∣       After everyone is unpacked then everyone will be able to visit the center of Bishkek and have lunch at a Kyrgyz ethnic café.
∣       Then enjoy a walk through the countless green parks in the city of Bishkek.  Don’t forget to visit the famous Osh Bazaar as well.
∣       Dinner will be had at the guesthouse or at a café where everyone can get to know each other over great local dishes.

Day 2: Bishkek to Kokomern Camp
∣       It’s important to get an early start today because there is going to be a lot of ground to cover.   You will make your way to the high mountain pass called Too Ashuu at 3,400 m. 
∣       It’s not recommend to bike from the top of the pass but start cycling on the gravel road that has limited traffic and amazing views.
∣       The bike ride will pass thought a few small villages and it’s a great spot to enjoy the first day on a bike in Kyrgyzstan.
∣       The final stop of the day will be the small cozy village of Kyzyl-Oi where you will be greeted with bottomless cups of tea from your hosts.

Day 3: Kyzyl-Oi to Kyzart village
∣       Today it will be imponent to get an early start because you will have a lot of ground to cover.
∣       The road is quite interesting and some parts of the road are new which makes for a great ride.
∣       After the long ride your hosts will great you in the village of Kyzart where you will be accommodated in a guesthouse.

Day 4: Kyzart village to Song Kol
∣       Today is going to be quite the adventure with a mix of bike riding and bike a hike.  Be ready for a few steep inclines and the possibility that you will push your bike up the mountain.
∣       The day will go like this, starting in Kyzart village to Kimlchy mountain valley and then you will cross one of the many passes on your way down to the Song Kol lake.  Once you are riding on the large rolling hills of Song Kol lake it’s quite flat and easy going until you reach your yurt camp.
∣       Once you reach Bayket’s yurt camp then you will be able to relax in the Kitchen yurt over endless cups of tea or you could enjoy a hike to one of the many panorama peaks in Song Kol to watch the sun set.

Day 5: Day 5 Song Kol to Baetov
∣       Back in the saddle on another day of high mountain passes and wild roads. 
∣       The first pass of the day Moldo-Ashuu 3,346 m will be the twisty and tourney pass. Then you will pass through a few small villages before arriving in the village of Baetov.
∣       It’s a nice idea to pick up a few snakes at the bazaar in Baetov before reaching the wild camping place for the night.
∣       Tonight you will set your tents in the wild and be able to see countless starts in the nights sky.

Day 6: Baetov to Tash Rabat
∣       Today will be another day passing though many mountain passes on your way to the famous Silk Road site of Tash Rabat. 
∣       One of the highlights of today will be passing over the Mels pass (Marx Engels Lenin Stalin) 3,243 m.
∣       Then you will arrive in Tash Rabat.  Tash Rabat was built in the ~10th Century and was a resting place for travelers on the Silk Road.  It’s worth checking out and don’t forget to count the different rooms inside the Caravanserai.
∣       Your hosts at the yurt camp will offer you bottomless cups of tea and great local dishes.
∣       You are welcome to take a local style shower two to three people at one time in the banya.

Accommodation: Yurt Camp in Tash Rabat
 
Day 7: Tash Rabat to Char
∣       Leaving Tash Rabat you will pass though many small villages before arriving at your final destation which is Char mountain valley. 
∣       It’s quite special to see the village life in the At-Bashy area on bike.  Watch out for the animal crossings along the way.
∣       The bike riding part will start in the village of Kazybek where you will be able to enjoy the bike ride to Char.  If you wish to stop before arriving in Char it’s no problem to put the bikes in the van and enjoy the ride.
∣       Once you arrive in Char mountain valley you will be able to enjoy a hike to one of the nearby peaks to catch the last light of the day.
∣       Everyone will be able to take a shower and enjoy a good night’s rest in private rooms.

Time driving: 4.5 hours
Bike riding km: 118 km – It’s no problem to put the bikes in the van and enjoy the drive.
Accommodation: Guesthouse in Char Mountain valley
 
Day 8: Char to Eky Naryn Yurt Camp
∣       Leaving Char mountain valley you will transfer to Naryn City where you will start biking on the side roads to Eki Naryn.
∣       It’s recommend to make a short stop in Naryn town to pick up a few fresh fruits and vegetables for the next days in the wild.
∣       After leaving Naryn town you will start biking along the mightily Naryn river.  You will pass thought a few small villages before arriving at Eki Naryn.
∣       Once you arrive in Eki Naryn then you will be able to unpack your things and enjoy a short hike near the yurt camp.  Today is an easier day where everyone will be able to enjoy the great views all around.
∣       Dinner will be had at the yurt camp.

Accommodation: Yurt Camp in Eky Naryn
 
Day 9: Eki Naryn to Juli Suu Hot springs
∣       Leaving the yurt camp you will make your way through the large open alpine plateau where you will be able to see ed yurts in the distance. 
∣       Today’s ride is a big longer one but quite enjoyable one, you will start in a forested valley then the rail opens up until you reach the camping spot for the night in Juli Suu hot springs.
∣       After a long day of riding it’s always nice to enjoy the hot springs before going to sleep at night.
∣       Tonight will be spent near the hot springs in tents.

Day 10: Juli Suu hot springs to Tamga village
∣       Today will be the hardest day and today you will see some of the best views possible as well.
∣       The track is quite rough and rocky all the way until you reach the top of Tosor Pass at ~4,000 m. 
∣       At the top of the pass it could be possible to see the shores of Issyk Kul lake and white toped peaks all around you.
∣       Making your way down from the Tosor pass can be a bit of a challenge because it’s quite steep so take it easy and make sure your brakes are adjusted well before descending down the pass.
∣       Then you will reach the main road on the south shore if Issyk Kul lake where you will meet up with your support cars again.
∣       Once you reach your guesthouse in Tamaga you will be greeted with bottomless cups of tea from your host.

Day 11: Cycling from Tamaga to Tong
∣       Today is set up to be an enjoyable day where you will be able to see a bit of everything.
∣       You will be able to ride from Tamaga to Fairytale Canyon which is a great spot to enjoy a 1-2 hour hike in the magical canyons.
∣       The next stop of the day will be in Mars canyons which is also full of misery and countless legends.
∣       The last stop of the day will be on the shores of Issyk Kul lake where you will spend the night in yurts.

Time driving: 1.5 hours
Bike riding km: 55 km
Accommodation: Yurts on the south shore if Issyk Kul lake.
 
Day 12 Issyk Kul beach time to Bishkek
∣       After breakfast, you will be able to enjoy one last visit to the Issyk Kul beach before heading back to Bishkek.
∣       On the way back to Bishkek it’s possible to make a 2-3 hour hike in Konorcheck canyons.  It’s one of the driest canyons in Kyrgyzstan and it’s a nice hike to do before heading back to Bishkek.
∣       Once arriving in Bishkek then you will be able to make a last-minute visit to ZUM to buy any gifts for your friends back home.
∣       After arriving back to the guesthouse then you will be able to take apart your bike and pack everything up inside your bike box.
∣       Once all the packing is done and ready you will be able to enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 13 Bishkek- Home

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
