Announcement: Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are located on the territory of the two main mountain systems of Central Asia - the Tien Shan and the Pamir. Our countries are crucial countries in the region from point of view of water supply. Sometimes called “water towers” because the region’s main rivers starts here in mountain glaciers and supply hot and dry Asia.
Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are brotherly countries with a common centuries-old history, similar mentality and many traditions. But despite this, we are very different in basic cultural terms. Because the Kyrgyz people are nomads and herders, and Tajiks are farmers since the time of the ancient Persian civilization. Kyrgyz live less compactly, as they need space for cattle. In winter, they are in the valleys, and in summer they wander into the mountains. Tajiks are mainly farmers, they are very conservative and closed to cultural influence people. But they are extremely hospitable and friendly. Also, despite the fact that our languages are different - Kyrgyz is Turkic, and Tajik is ancient Persian, we have a lot of similar words.
The population is also not delimited and mixed, and it is a problem for borders establishment. A lot of Tajiks live in Kyrgyzstan, there are separate mono-ethnic Tajik villages and even several enclaves. And in the Pamir mountains there are many of nomadic Kyrgyz, especially in the north-eastern part of Tajikistan. Despite of this fact, the Kyrgyz and Tajiks have managed to save their original ancient cultures. Mountains and isolation helped to this.
Thus, if you want to see the real ancient cultures of the Central Asian mountains - Persians and nomadic peoples, you should take a full tour :).
