Horseback riding : Explore the ancient Silk Road, 13 Days

NOMAD’S LAND: FROM NORTH TO SOUTH

Duration: 13 days/8 days horseback

Level of difficulty: Difficult (two passes over 3000 m – crossing on foot)

Destinations: the town of Kochkor, Song Kol – 2nd largest alpine lake in Kyrgyzstan; Arslanbob – world largest walnut forest, Kara-Suu village, Sary Chelek National Park

Group size: 4-6

Best season: end of June - September

Requirement: Trekking boots, weatherproof warm clothes, sunscreen, sunglass, pocket torch, sleeping bag.

Day 1 – Bishkek to Song Kol
Meeting at the airport. Transfer to Bishkek. After the breakfast, we take the direction to the Kochkor village. Arriving to Kochkor, we visit the Handicraft museum and have a felt show. Before leaving the village, we take our supper in the yurt. In the evening, we arrive near by the lake Song Kol (3016m) via Kalmak Ashu Pass at 3446 m. Overnight in yurt.  (320 km/6h).

Day 2 – Tuz Ashuu to Kumduu Suu
After the sleep night, we take our breakfast, meeting with our team and take our horses. Supper with nomads in our guide yurt. After the supper, we continue our trek until Kumduu Suu to join Batma grandma. Dinner and overnight with nomads. (4-6 h horse time).

Day 3 Kumduu Suu to Tash Dobo

Today, we change real nomad’s yurt to Joloman’s yurt camp for the tourists in Tash Tobo. On the road we take our picnic in historical place named “Manas stones”. This afternoon, we take a hot shower in hand made shower bath. Dinner and night in yurt camp. (Horse time – 4-6 hours).

Day 4 Tash Dobo to Kazarman

After the breakfast, we take our horse for few hours until Moldo pass at 3200 m. Picnic on the pass and we take the bus to the village Kazarman. Night at homestay. (160 km/4h and 2-3 h horse time).

Day 5 Kazarman to Arslanbob

Today, we have long road in bus by magnificent high mountain route. Picnic on the road. Evening, the dinner accompanied with the traditional folk concert in home stay in Arslanbob. (250 km / 6-7h on bus).

Day 6 Arslanbob

Start 9-00, horse riding or trekking to the small waterfall, cave of forty angels, panorama of Arslanbob after to the forest. You can see relic woods, village, big waterfalls. Picnic with a taste shashlyk rest, continue tour to jayloo and come back to Arslanbob (15-km, 6 - hours)              

Day 7 Arslanbob to Kara Suu

Breakfast, we take our bus to the National Park Sary Chelek. Supper on the road. Arriving to the Kara Suu village. Time to meeting with locals. After dinner, we have a musical arrangement from Manashi. He will play a part from the kyrgyz epic tale. Overnight in homestay. (250 km/4-5h)

Day 8 Kara-Suu Lake

Breakfast. Setting off northwards from Kara-Suu village to the Kara-Suu Gorge, along the banks of the Kara-Suu River and in the middle of walnut and fir forest. The valley becomes rather narrow and the slopes are covered with a beautiful silver fir forest. Further on the track passes below a waterfall and then we climb to Kara-Suu Lake (1802m, 17 km, 4 hours). This evening, we will learn how to play the local card’s game named “Durak” (“the Fool” in Kyrgyz). Overnight in a tent.

Day 9 Sary Chelek Lake

Breakfast, then continue the trek along the Kara-Suu river where the slopes of the mountains are covered with silver fir forests. The stony road winds through inhabited jailoos (mountain pastures). After lunch we cross the Makmal Pass (2550m), and descend into the Kula Taï canyon till the Sary Chelek river. After 2 km into a canyon, the landscape opens on the main Sary Chelek lake. Tonight our guide will explain legends of the Sary Chelek lake. Overnight in a tent. (1875m., 17km, 4-5h).

Day 10 Kechkil

After breakfast, we leave the bank of Sary Chelek lake and we cross the Ashuu Pass (2560m) where we ride through fir forests and have a panoramic view of the infinite ridges of the Tien-Shan Mountains which are stretching to the far horizon and beyond. During the descent from the pass we will have lunch and then continue down through the Keshkil gorge, to the bottom part of Sary-Chelek Lake. There we will have dinner and camp overnight in tents (25 km, 6 hours).

Day 11 Five small Lakes

In the morning – excursion to the 5 small lakes of Sary-Chelek (10km, 2,5 hours) till noon. After this we will continue on through the fir and walnut forests enjoying the panoramic views on the way to Arkyt village for dinner and overnight in a homestay (20km, 4 hours).

Day 12 Arkyt to Bishkek

Early breakfast, take the direction to Bishkek and drive through the Chichkan Canyon, famous for its honey, wild strawberries and its trout. Supper in roadway resto.  Ala Bel Pass (3175m alt.) on the road opens the breathtaking view to the upper valley of Sussamyr. Arriving to the Hotel at 16-17 o’clock, we have a few hours for take a shower. Dinner at the restaurant, and visit one of the amazing dance place of the capital.

Day 13 Bishkek - Europe

Notes :

-       No visa is required for citizens of USA, UE, Japon and Canada citizenship. (total of 59 countries, up to 60 days, 6 month passport validity)  mfa.kg . Simply provide the passport of six months validity.  

-       Provide your personal medicament because the guide has a basic pharmacy.

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
