The Maiden Tower which is one of the symbols of Baku was described on the currency banknotes of Azerbaijan. The tradition goes on holding the ancient national holiday of Novruz in the Maiden Tower and its surrounding area was included by UNESCO in 2009 in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
