Khuvsgul lake dog sledding trip to reindeer herder shaman

Our dog sled expedition will take place in Asia’s largest freshwater lake Khuvsgul. Lake Khuvsgul is Mongolia's largest and deepest lake. Lake Khuvsgul continues about 136km , 267m deep and 3500m above sea level. Lake Khuvsgul is the second largest fresh water lake in Central Asia and is also home to a number of animals including sheep, ibex, bear, yak, reindeer and moose, and many species of birds. Also 4 tribes live in Khuvsgul namely, Khalkh, Buriad, Tuva and Darkhad. Tuvas are Mongolia’s strongest shamans and they herds about 2000 reindeers and live in the forest. Most Mongolian tribes herd livestock ( cattles, camels, horses, yaks, sheeps, goats) and they move 4 times a year. If we are lucky , we will meet all 4 tribes there and experience their way of life.

Day 1. Flight to Murun and Hatgal town
Arrive in Murun from Ulaanbaatar by car. Murun is one of the crowded provinces in Mongolia . Then we will go about 100km by car to Khatgal, which is a village in Mongolia on the southern tip of Lake Khuvsgul. In the past, there was a port went mainly through trade with Russia. We will spend some time to explore Khuvsgul lake, meet the sled dogs, have a welcoming dinner and stay in wooden house.
Day 2. Start dog sled trip frozen lake
After breakfast we will start our dog sled tour. This day, we will travel about 30km by sled dog. Stop by a spring, which don’t freeze, and have a lunch there. Stay in a traditional Mongolian ger camp ‘Khirvesteg’ on the western coast of Lake Khovsgol.
Day 3. Jigleh mountain , cold spring.
This morning after breakfast we will drive to Khuvsgul lake shore. This day ,we will go about 45km by sled dogs on the Khuvsgul lake. There is a spring, which heals many kinds of diseases and not freeze during the winter. It is also home to over 200 species of birds. After travelling long way by sled dogs , we will have a chance to ride a horse on the ice. Overnight in a herder’s traditional ger
Day 4. 10 dead volcanos
After breakfast , we will go ice fishing. Then will drive to Renchinlhumbe village which is the coldest point in Khuvsgul and situated between 10 dead volcanos. We say good bye sled dogs this time. Then we will drive . This day we will drive approximately 40km on frozen river , take look of beautiful nature view. Stay in a Khalkh family, explore their nomadic way of life and have a mongolian traditional dinner with the family.
Day 5 Reindeer herder
This morning after breakfast we will pass by beautiful village Tsagaan nuur and russia and mongolia’s border line. After lunch , will continue travelling by car and visit a Tsaatan family or Reindeer family. Explore the day in a life of Tsaatan family ,feed reindeers by your hands, ride a reindeer, meet shamans. Stay overnight in Tsaatan yurt
Day 6 Red mountain village buriad tribes
After breakfast we will drive to the highest point of dead volcano. Shape of the volcano is same as Everest. Today we will stay in a small village where buriad tribes live.Have a home cooked meals with buriad family. Then we will go to dance club in a small town and learn famous buriad dance and have fun. Overnight in wooden house.
Day 7 Back to Moron town
This morning after lunch visit forest area school and meet countryside children. Drive to the biggest shamans 13 ovoo (pyramid shaped sacred rocks). Afternoon, head to Murun and have a closing dinner . Stay in a hotel
Day 8. Back to Ulaanbaatar. Departure.

For a confirmed booking, a deposit of (10%) is required. Deposit is paid by credit card (secure payment via Stripe, no credit card fees). The remaining balance can be paid in cash upon start of the trip - unless Host & Traveler agree on different payment methods.
Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the booked service. The deposit (10%) is only refundable if the booking is canceled at least 30 days in advance.
