Dushanbe-Osh: M41 via Wakhan (with a Bonus Hike), 8 Days

Trip description

Day 1: Picking-up from a hotel/guest-house in Dushanbe and heading to Kalai-Khumb. Short stop to see the Khulbuk Fortress in Kulyab. Overnight in a guest-house in Kalai-Khumb town.

Day 2: Driving to Khorog along the Panj river with great views of Afghan villages. Afternoon Khorog City Tour: Botanical Garden, Khorog Historical Museum, University of Central Asia Campus, City Park, Visitor Information Center. Overnight in a homestay in Khorog.

Day 3: Departing Khorog and driving to Wakhan. On the way visit ruins of Kah-Kaha and Yamchun fortresses, pre-Islamic shrines, Bibi-Fatima hot spring, and Sufi Muborak Museum. Overnight in a homestay in Langar 

Day 4:  Engels Meadow Trek. Highlights: amazing view of the whole Wakhan valley (Afghan and Tajik), great view of the immense Engels (6507 m) South Face. Overnight in a homestay in Langar.

Day 5: Driving to Bulunkul settlement (considered one of the coldest place on Earth) via the Khargush pass (4344 m). 2-3 hike to the viewpoint of the pass. In the afternoon discover the village and the lakes. Overnight in a homestay in Bulunkul.  

Day 6: Departing Bulunkul and driving to Alichur. A day yak safari to observe the wildlife (in particularly Marco-Polo sheep). Overnight in a homestay/yurt in Alichur.

Day 7: Driving to Karakul village. On the way short stop in Murghab to visit the local bazaar and handicraft shops. In the afternoon hike along the Karakul lake. Overnight in a homestay in Karakul.

Day 8: Early driving to Osh. Half day hike towards the base camp of in Peak in Kyrgyzstan. Overnight in a guest-house in Osh.
