Start your journey with Mongolia Travels for a wonderful trip to Transmongolica! This tour will take you to discover Siberia, Mongolia, and China, crossing more than 6000 km!
We offers standard tours but gives you the opportunity to build your itinerary according to other points of interest or special needs.
Day 1-2 / Arrival and visit in Moscow
Once you arrive in Moscow, we will accompany you to the hotel and we will have dinner. Free evening.
Our tour in Moscow will begin with a subway departure – an opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful stations, real architecture masterpieces of the Communist period. We will walk along the famous Staryj Arbat, Moscow’s sparkling pedestrian street, full of little shops and bars of all kinds. We will continue with the panoramic visit of the Red Square, the GUM warehouses, the Bolshoi theater (on the outside), the Manezhnaya Square and the characteristic change of guard at the Altar of the Unknown Military.
We will then make a guided tour of the Kremlin and it's beautiful, richly decorated cathedrals, once the setting for the crowning rites and marriages of the Tsars.
After visiting the city, we head to the station and board the train that will take us to Irkutsk. The journey lasts about 3 days and will allow us to watch life and the train’s passengers until entering Siberia, all comfortably sitting on our seat/bed while watching our “documentary” from the large window of the train.
Day 2 evening - 6 morning / Late evening departure from Moscow and morning arrival in Irkutsk
Late evening departure from Moscow and arrival in the morning of day 6 in Irkutsk
Day 6-7 Island of Olkhon
Transfer from Irkutsk to the Island of Olkhon and lunch at the local restaurant. We will arrive at about 3 p.m and check-in at the guesthouse.
Then, we will discover the famous Shamanka Rock and take a walk through the village of Chužir. Dinner included.
Breakfast in hotel and then hike to Khoboy Cape, the northernmost point of the island, a sacred place for shamans. The trip will allow you to discover the beauty of the sea and the primordial nature of this area. Outdoor lunch (omul fish based) and following walk with stops in the most interesting places. Return to Khuzhir. The road passes through the steppes, beaches, and taiga. Dinner included.
Day 8 - Return to Irkutsk
We will return to the hotel in the afternoon and visit the city according to the time of arrival before our dinner in the hotel.
In Irkutsk, we can admire the noble palaces of the late nineteenth century - when the city began to flourish -, and a lively atmosphere especially along the river in summer. Here, we can admire the beautiful wooden houses with their windows decorated with the refined carving decorations in the typical Siberian style, of which the city is full (it's said those of Irkutsk are the most beautiful and best-preserved ones). They are mainly found in the old districts of Irkutsk and serve as spoilers to what will be seen in the non-suburban Siberia. We visit the Orthodox cathedral of Epiphany and Znamensky monastery, a wonderful Orthodox monastery with a richly decorated interior. We will take a guided tour of the city and return to the hotel in the evening.
Day 9-10 - From Irkutsk to Ulan Bator by train
At the right time, we are accompanied to the station to board the train that will take us directly to the capital of Mongolia, Ulan Bator. We process customs formalities on board and continue until we arrive in the capital the next morning.
Day 11-12 and 13 / Terelj National Park / Khustai National Park / Ulan Bator Visit
We have 2 days of adventure in the Mongolian steppe. We will visit the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, one of the most popular nature parks, about 70 km from the capital and is famous for its "Turtle Rock" and the Aryabal temple. It's a popular destination in Mongolia, many people often come here for the weekend or to enjoy a bit of nature away from the capital.
The temple is interesting and has a strong influence on Tibetan Buddhism: the visit includes an hour-long excursion on horseback, a hike, and the Khustai National Park is the right place to visit if you want to relax and admire the natural habitat of the Mongol fauna, the famous wild takhi horses but also groundhogs, deer, eagles and other birds.
We will make an excursion with the ranger of the area to spot the famous horses and other types of animals/birds depending on the season. After these magnificent 2 days in contact with nature, we will return to Ulan Bator. Overnight stay in a ger for two days without internal hygienic services in a local family with full board service. Return to Ulan Bator in hotel, private room.
Day 14 / Ulan Bator - Beijing
When the time comes, we are accompanied to the train station to get on the train that will take us to Beijing. Arrival expected next morning. The border crossing formalities will be carried out on board the train.
Day 15 - Beijing Visit
Arrival at Beijing station in the morning, our guide is waiting for us to accompany us on a visit to the Forbidden City and the imposing Chinese Wall. At the end of the excursion, we have some time to make the last purchases before returning to the hotel for overnight stay and return to the airport depending on your flight. (expected extra cost if you leave early morning or late evening).
