Lake Issyk (Almaty region)
Issyk (another name of the lake - Yessik, which in Kazakh means "door") is a picturesque, high-altitude lake surrounded by an unusually beautiful nature of dense forests and wide flower fields. The lake is located at an altitude of 1760 meters above sea level, in the Issyk gorge of the Zailiysky Alatau, about 70 km east of Almaty.
According to geologists, the lake was formed 8 thousand years ago as a result of the most powerful collapse of the mountain avalanche, which later created a natural dam 300 meters high. In 1939, the territory of the lake began to actively improve: an asphalt road, a tourist base, a bus station was quickly built.
For lovers of history this place is also interesting: here you can visit the Issyk mound IV-V cc. BC. and the place where the Saka warrior was dressed in armor and gold clothes, which later became the symbol of Kazakhstan.
Turgen waterfall, Turgen gorge (Almaty region)
One of the most popular attractions in the vicinity of Almaty is the famous Turgen Bear Waterfall. The bear waterfall is part of the Turgen waterfalls, which were formed by a tiny river Turgen.
In total in the Turgen gorge there are seven waterfalls, the most famous of which, of course, is the Bear Waterfall. For visiting tourists three waterfalls are available - Skalisty, Bear and Kairak. In the Turgen gorge you can find "the source of eternal youth" and, according to the belief - the soul of one who tastes from this source of crystal clear water, will become younger.
Turgen waterfalls are on the territory of the national natural park Ile-Alatau. The gorge shows tourists all its beauty and invites you to enjoy amazing waterfalls, swim in hot springs, take a walk through alpine and subalpine meadows, mixed and coniferous forests, admire crystal clear lakes and springs. The picturesque Turgen gorge extends deep into 44 km to the Assy plateau.
The height of the fall of the Turgen Bear waterfall is about 30 m. The falling stream of water cuts through the lying rocks, refreshing everything around with small sprays of water. The bear waterfall is not the highest and impressive in the gorge. Its main feature is that it is located near the road and therefore is accessible to tourists and holidaymakers.
On the way to Turgen Bear Waterfall you can also visit a unique ostrich farm.
