Altai Tavan Bogd and Kazakh family stay, 5 days

Highlights:      

            Altai Tavan Bogd is a must go place for someone who thinks to visit Mongolia, especially for the Western Mongolian region. Its highest peak called Khuiten translated as Cold is 4374 meters high above sea level and one of best technical climbing options for climbers. Malchin peak is suitable for non-technical climbing and it is 4050 meters above sea level. One the top of Malchin you will enjoy the beauty of Altai Mountain Ranges lying within Russian, Chinese and Mongolian territory. Potanin glacier, the longest in Mongolia, is located through Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain range and you set up your tents along by this glacier at the Altai Tavan Bogd's Base Camp site.

This tour can be done between early June to late August. 

Itinerary day by day:  

Day 1, Fly to Ulgii (flight takes 3,5 hours)

UB to Ulgii flights are early in the morning. Upon arrival in Ulgii around 9 am your driver and guide will meet you at the local Ulgii airport. Then, you will have a breakfast/tea/rest for an hour before heading to Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains. Driving will take 6-7 hours and the distance is 220 km from Ulgii to the north gate entrance of ATB NP. Non paved road, lunch on the way. We will set up our tents at the north gate and stay overnight at the entrance to the ATB NP. (B,L,D) 

Day 2, Trek to Altai Tavan Bogd Base Camp

Early morning breakfast and we load our tents and luggage onto camel and trek to the Base Camp of ATB Mt. Local herdsman will be accompanying us with our luggage loaded onto a camel. Hiking would take 3-4 hours and the distance is approx 15-18 km. When we reach a tophill stunning view of ATB snowcapped mountains would welcome you. We set up our tents along by the Potaning glacier at the Bse Camp camping site. Lunch on the way to the base camp. Overnight in tents. (B,L,D) 

Day 3, Malchin Peak (Non-technical climbing)

Early morning breakfast at the Base Camp and we start our non-technical climbing to Malchin Peak. What you need for this day is a non-slippery good trekking shoes. Malchin is partially snow capped on the top, the climbing would be done through the edge of the Peak and the rocks/sand would be loose and moving while we climb up. It would be an adventurous climb. You might think to give up on the way but if you make it to the top you will see it was worth for that little bit of scary and energy consuming climb. (B,L,D) 

Day 4, Stay with an Eagle Hunter Family

Early morning breakfast and today we will pack our tents and return back to the north side entrance gate of the NP where we left our car. After lunch we drive back to Sagsai Village where we will visit an Eagle Hunter's family and stay overnigt with the family. Driving would take approx 6 hours, 200km. (B,L,D) 

Day 5, Drive back to Ulgii and Fly to UB

Today we will have some time with the Eagle Hunter in the morning and drive back to Ulgii after lunch. (If the flight is in the afternoon) If the flight is in the morning we will have an early morning breakfast and drive to the Ulgii airport (40-50 min). Fly out to UB. (B)
