10 Days: Reindeer herders of Mongolian Taiga & Khuvsgul lake

 Visit reindeer herders, horse riding in the Taiga 4 days, and relax on the shore of Khuvsgul lake tour 10 Days

Tour has a round trip domestic flight to Murun town from Ulaanbaatar. From Murun we will drive toward Tsagaannuur village, where our horse herder nomad family live. Farther we will ride a horse 2 days to get Reindeer herders summer camp. On the way, we will visit the nomad family's summer camp to learn Mongolian culture. The mountain range Khordil Sardig is the most scenic nature and wild eco-system. The last day of a tour we will relax on the Khuvsgul lake. 

Day 1 Hordil Sardig mountain valley

Afternoon, driver will transfer you to airport for domestic flight to Khuvsgul province, Murun town. We will arrive around 15 PM. The local driver and guide will pick you up from the airport and drive to a camping village Ulaan-Uul. Hike in Hordil Sardig mountain Range. Stay wooden cottage. (Fly 1,5 hours, Drive 4,5 hours)

Day 2 Drive to Tsgaan nuur village. Hike around lake

Tsagaan nuur is the last driving village before riding on a horse to remote Taiga. It is a summer camp of Reindeer people. Tsagaan nuur means White lake, the town named by the lake. The lake is pure and deep, surrounded by mountains and it is famous for its white fish.

Drive 120 km by mountainous rugged off-road (4-5 hours)

Day 3: Horse trek in taiga forest to drop off point.

Today we will visit our horse herder family. horse wrangler will pack up tents, kitchen and all luggage on package horse. Horse riding adventure starts today. Our horse wrangler has over 10 years of experience with serving for foreign visitors. If you are riding a horse first time, there is no worry.  Horse trek around 5-6 hours through beautiful Taiga. Completely silence only birds will sing for us. Camping in a tent.

Day 4 Horse riding to Reindeer herder summer camp.

After breakfast, in the morning pack all the luggage to the horse. Continue to ride our horses. Grey, brown, green mountains wild berries continue during a horse trek. We will have a picnic lunch on the way. The afternoon we will reach the reindeer herder's camp. Stay in a teepee.

Day 5 A wolf-dog, smoking teepees, reindeer herder kids running outside, herders visiting teepee to teepee and they will curious about the foreign visitor. Today we will visit reindeer herder families. Full day stay with reindeer herders and discover their culture. Ride a reindeer and hike in mountain.

Day 6, 7 Horse riding towards Tsagaan nuur Village, camping in a tent.

Those days we will ride back to Tsagaannuur village, our horse herder. Now you will be good friends with your horse. The back way of the village will be advanced riding. All tourists ride very well, due to previous days horse riding experience. 

Day 8 Drive to Khuvsgul lake

Today we will drive to Khuvsgul lake. Endless meadow hills, yaks, the famous Darkhad valley white horses, goat and sheep. The driving way will be fascinating natural scenic and aminals. Drive 7-8 hours

Day 9 Relax on the shore of lake, Evening drive to Murun

Full day stay on the shore of Khuvsgul lake, relax and hiking. After lunch, we will drive to Murun town. And stay in a hotel. (1,5 hours)

Day 10 Visit deer stone complex and Fly to Ulaanbaatar

in the morning we will visit "Deer stone complex". The nomad cultures main monument. As long as nomads don't build any palace and house, they remain deer stone monument for their ancestors. After lunch, say goodbye to your guide and driver; fly to Ulaanbaatar. From Ulaanbaatar airport, a driver will pick up you and transfer to your accommodation.

What to bring: We ride on high altitudes in mountains. In the taiga morning gets easily wet. The weather can vary very easily from warm sunny to sudden down pours. The temperature ranges from +15°C (59°F) to 25°C (77°F) during the day and from +20°C (68°F) - +5°C (41°F) during a night. - Water resisted mid-calf boots as they double as hiking boots - Light shoes or Sneakers for camping and in car - Gloves - long, thick socks on horse riding - riding chaps (optional) - Rain suit, or rain and wind resisted coat. Not the ponchos or light plastic. (they spook the horses) - A hat with string - Bike pants or some softer clothes for your buttocks. - Sun glasses - Sun cream - Insect repellent spray - Personal medications, first aid kit (specially pills for stomach, nose drop and eye drop) - Warm clothes Light, power bank for phone charge or extra batteries, car pillow,
