Trekking Across Kyrgyzstan
Days: 8 Days
Alex at Indy Guide would like to introduce you to a fascinating region perched in the middle of Tien Shan. Kyrgyzstan, a country of nomads in the due heart of Central Asia, offers largely unexplored mountains with a splendid playground for all nature- and virgin-land-lovers. The Kyrgyz people who have preserved its tradition of hospitality live peacefully in a surprising variety of landscapes and have made this country the pearl of Central Asia with steppes, prairies, deserts, and also canyons, high alpine valleys, and lakes with turquoise waters.
Day 1: Arrival in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
∣ Early arrival in Bishkek where everyone will be picked up at the airport by your driver. Your name will be written on a name card.
∣ After an early breakfast, everyone will go over the tour with your guide and answer any last-minute questions you might have.
∣ After a short walk through Ala Too Square in Bishkek you will make your way to the lake district of Kyrgyzstan Issyk Kul Region.
∣ The first stop of the day will be in Konorcheck canyons which is a great spot to enjoy a 3-hour hike in one of the dries canyons in Kyrgyzstan. You will be able to have a panic lunch in the dry canyon.
∣ The next stop will be at an Eagle hunter’s house. You will be able to meet him and get to know a bit of Kyrgyzstan’s nomadic traditions. (*If there is not enough time this day you will be able to visit tomorrow as well.)
∣ The last stop of the day will be in Tamchy at a cozy guesthouse. If you wish it’s possible to enjoy a swim in the famous Issyk Kul lake. During the month of August, it can be ~35 to 40 C in the low attitudes and this makes for a great spot to jump in for a quick swim.

Day 2: Traveling from Tamchy to Tash Rabat
∣ Today you will leave the lake district of Kyrgyzstan and head deep into the mountains.
∣ The first stop of the day will be in Naryn town where you can visit the small bazar to pick up fresh produce for the next days.
∣ The next stop will be at a waterfall between Naryn town and the At-Bashy mountain range. It’s a great spot to stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh air.
∣ The last stop of the day will be at the Yurt camp in Tash Rabat. There will be time to explore the caravanserai that was a hotel, trading post, and refuge for travelers on the Great Silk Road. It was built in the 15th century and it’s still in good condition.
∣ Tonight dinner will be had in the yurts.

Day 3: Tash Rabat to Kok Bel Pass to Karakol Valley
∣ Today this is going to be a challenge for everyone. The day will start very early leaving Tash Rabat you will make your way by car to the Karakol River. The road is quite rough in a few places and it makes for quite an adventure for everyone.
∣ Once you reach the Karakol River everyone will be able to meet with the horsemen and start on the path into the wild valley of Apra. Today is a shorter hiking day because of the long transport and overall organization of the trek.
∣ Once you build the camp for the night you will be able to see virgin land where few shepherds live. There will be time to explore the nearby mountain valleys in the Arpa Plain.

Day 4: Karakol Valley to Arpa Valley
∣ Today you will hike alongside the Fergana range to your south. It’s important to get an early start today because you have a lot of ground to cover.
∣ Today’s you will be able to see snow-capped peaks in the distance and Yurts ted on the horizon. It’s possible that you will be invited to have tea and bread at the Yurt camp along the way. The shepherds will be shocked to meet trekkers in this area.
∣ Later in the day camp will be built near a valley to protect everyone from the strong winds in the Arpa valley. Night in the tents.

Day 5: Arpa Valley to Jylangash Valley
∣ After packing your bags, you will descend into a lush wooded area rich in pastureland with an abundance of small rivers and lakes.
∣ The locals believe that Japaiy Adam, a wild man related to the Yeti uses this area to migrate between the Pamir mountain range and the Tien Shan mountain range. Keep your eyes open for the footprints of the Yeti.
∣ Later in the day, you will build a camp in the Jylangash valley with great views all around.

Day 6: Jylangash Valley to Chitty River
∣ After breakfast, you will start the difficult ascent to the Chitti pass at 3,720m. The small path will climb gradually where you will have a view of both sides of the Fergana rage.
∣ The climate and the people will change after this pass because you are entering a different region in Kyrgyzstan. You will feel more of a Mediterranean climate and the people we will meet on the way will have more Uzbek complexion.
∣ The final resting place for the night will be the Chitty River. Night in the tents.

Day 7: Chitti Valley to Osh
∣ Today will be your last day with the horse boys and the last part of the trek. It’s more or less all downhill trek. You will follow the Chitti valley and it’s possible to meet beekeepers and have a sample of the local honey.
∣ Once your driver meets you at the end of the Chitti valley you will leave the Fergana range to discover some of the most ancient regions of Central Asia.
∣ You will be able to visit the historical complex in Uzgen with its three mausoleum and large minaret from the 11th century.
∣ The final destination for the day is Osh City where you will be able to have a famous plov dinner in a chaykhana (café) and have a rest at a local guesthouse.

Day 8: Flight from Osh to Home End of the Trip
∣ Today you will be able to visit the city of Osh and summit the mountain of Solomon and see the 3000-year-old bazar of Osh city and many other highlights of the city.
∣ Today is created as a day where everyone can fly back home from Osh. It’s possible to catch an international flight from Osh to Moscow and then back home for most guests.
∣ We would like to thank you for coming to Kyrgyzstan and we hope to meet you or your friends in the future.
*If someone would like to hire a flight from Osh to Bishkek with an airport pick up, night in a guesthouse, and drop off the next day at the airport it cost 120 dollars per person.
