KAZAKHSTAN, ASTANA-KORGALZHYN

The Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve is part of the protected steppes and lakes of Northern Kazakhstan and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kazakhstan.

The reserve area is located 130 km south-west of Astana. The nature protection zone of the Tengiz-Korgalzhyn lakes was designated in 1968 to preserve natural water and mixed wetlands that for many years have been the habitat of curly pelicans, flamingos and other rare birds (32 species - only from the Red Book), including migratory birds. Since 1994, on local lakes, pink pelicans have often been noticed.
