Question: Kyrgyzstan/Tajikistan

I am a UK citizen living in Almaty. I am enquiring a bout a trip in Summer 2017. I would like to go from Dushanbe to Khorog and do a 5-day hike (up to 5,000 metres but not a technical climb). Then I want to go overland to Osh via Penjakent, Istaravshan and Khujand.

I would like to hire a driver with a car to take me from Osh to Bishkek and then I will make my own way to Karakol. I would like to do the following treks;

  • Several days around Karakol
  • Trek to base camp of Khan Tengri and helicopter ride back

I am not expecting one guide, but different ones along the route. I speak reasonable Russian and some Tajik. I will be alone and looking for good value for money.

I think it is easy to organize this tour however after Khorog going back to Dushanbe is not good idea. Better start from Hujand to Dushanbe on the way panjekent, Iskandarkul then Dushanbe, Khorog to Osh.

On the tour there are hiking, organize trekking in the Eastern Pamirs up to 5000 meters, and the tracks in Kyrgyzstan!

Dear Kubanych and Dilshod,

Thank you for your suggestions. I understand that both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are stunningly beautiful countries. However, I'm more into hiking and exploring than sitting in a car for 11 days.

Best regards,

Nasser.

Dear Ryan,

Thank you for the offer. Unfortunately, I never learnt to drive, so the idea of driving on those high mountain roads is sending me into apoplexy. However, I appreciate the time you took to send me your suggestions.

Best regards,

Nasser.

Dear Alovaddin,

Thank you for your response. I'm hoping to be in Dushanbe in the last week of July 2017. I will make my own way from Osh to Dushanbe via Khujand, Istaravshan and Khujand. By the way, are there buses or Marushtkas to and from those destinations?

If I were to do your suggested itinerary, can you send me a breakdown of the trip and an approximate costing?

Thank you.

Hi Nasser,
I have an exciting trekking program to the Mayakovskiy peak (6,095m), which is led by a professional alpinist and begins with an acclimatisation period in lower altitude mountains, and thorough training sessions on how to use safety equipment. Donkeys and porters will carry your baggage, leaving you free to enjoy the journey, but you will still have to be physically fit in order to make it to the top. This trekk doesn't require any advanced trekking skills or fittnes.
For this trip I suggest following route: Osh-Khujand-Penjikent-Dushanbe- Kalai Khumb -Khorog - 8 days trekking in the Wakhan valley - Langar - Alichur - Karakul - Osh.

Let me know if you are interested in proposed tour, otherwise i can propose other options.

Best regards,

Alovaddin

We can cover both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and also can give you the option to self-drive if you'd like. You already speak the language, so it would be a quite cost effective option. Rental vehicles would be $90-110/day depending on model and rental length. We can also offer a guide/driver for the whole trip for $245/day including the 4x4, driver, driver's food and lodging, and fuel. Just your food and lodging would not be included. We can arrange any route you'd like.

Hi, I can give you a car with a driver, the price of US 70 cents per km. Its accommodations and meals will pay for themselves after the fact. Does it suit you?

Hi Nasser. I want recomend to do small changing in your plan. Arrive into Tajikistan from Osh to Khujant, then to Istravshan, Penjikent , Dushanbe. From Dushanbe to do tour along Pamir High Way, to Osh with few days hake in Pamir.

Best Reagrds.
